Boys.

My blog has been full of....well, silence. It has been a challenging past few months and I don't expect anything too different for the next couple. Not trying to sound pessimistic or like I lack hope, just being realistic. For this reason I've avoided the blog. Today I realized something pretty cool though that I wanted to share.

I've been at work for the last two days. During this time I've had only the boys-a 12 year old and a 20 month old. Talk about going from 0 to 60 in no time flat. Personally, I'm not a mom. At work, I experience "parenting" at every age level. What a blessing that I can try this on for size before it's my time to have my own babies. Life would be so much easier for many if they had been able to practice parenting before actually doing it.

So, as I spent time with my 12 year old as he got ready for school, I gave a big Thank You to God. I have been blessed to have an amazing grandfather, super uncles, the most wonderful dad, and the best brothers in the world. Because of this and the example they have set, I am better equiped to help this boy grow in to a young man. It's not a job for the faint of heart or those who may have a weak stomach :p. Plus, I have an awesome God and Savior to seek out for examples and advice.

It's not always easy, I don't always enjoy it, and I am constantly asking myself if I'm doing the right thing, making the right decision, if I'm nurturing enough and gentle enough without comprimising his sense of being a guy. However, what a beautiful privilege-to be able to contribute to life in such a cool way.
